Terms of Use

These terms cover Szept for macOS, bought directly at szept.szyma.co, and the same app sold on the Mac App Store as Voice Dictate. They are written to be read. Nothing here removes rights you have under the consumer law of your own country.

1. Who we are

Szept is made and sold by Szyma Consulting Mariusz Szyma, Dąbrowska 57, 46-070 Wawelno, Poland, tax identification number (NIP) 9910415381. Contact: [email protected].

Checkout at szept.szyma.co is run by Polar Software, Inc. (polar.sh), which acts as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, charges the correct sales tax or VAT and issues your receipt. Polar's own terms apply to the payment itself.

2. What you get when you buy directly

• The app: a signed and notarized Szept for macOS, delivered as a disk image.
• The source: access to a private GitHub repository with the complete Swift project, its tests and the scripts that build, sign and package it, granted to the GitHub username you enter at checkout.
• The agent kit: the project documentation in that repository (CLAUDE.md, design specs, implementation plans and tests).
• Twelve months of updates, as new disk images and in the repository.
• For a Team or Company licence: the notes for deploying Szept with a device-management system (MDM) — an installer package, a privacy-preferences profile and the settings your IT team can set in advance.

The price is shown at checkout and paid once. There is no subscription. After twelve months you can renew updates for another year, or not; everything you already have keeps working and stays yours.

3. What you are not buying

Speech recognition. Szept transcribes through Soniox, under your own Soniox account and API key, billed by Soniox at its prices and under its terms. Szept cannot dictate without it, and we neither resell nor mark up that service. Before you buy, be sure you are willing to hold a Soniox account; it is required and not included.

AI cleanup and Translate are optional and work the same way: through a provider you choose (DeepSeek by default, or another OpenAI-compatible service), under your own account and key, billed by that provider. Szept works without them.

4. The licence

The app and the source are licensed to you, not sold, under the Szept Source License 1.0, which is based on the PolyForm Internal Use License 1.0.0. The full text is in the repository. In plain words:

• You can use Szept on your own Macs, for yourself or inside your company; change anything, including the speech engine; build and run your own versions; and keep your changes private.
• You can't share the source or your builds with anyone outside that use; publish or sell a fork, on GitHub, a website or any app store; or use the Szept name or icon for your builds.

Who a licence covers depends on what you bought:

• Personal — one named person, on any number of Macs they use, for themselves or for their work at any company.
• Team — up to ten named people who work for one company. A place can be reassigned when someone leaves; no more than ten people are covered at once.
• Company — the people and scope in a written agreement with us. Write to [email protected].

Sharing the app, the source or your builds among the people your licence covers — through a private repository or your device-management system — is allowed; sharing them with anyone else is not. The full text is the LICENSE file in the repository. If the licence text and this summary differ, the licence text applies.

5. Refunds and your right of withdrawal

If Szept does not work for you, write to [email protected] within 14 days of buying and you get the full amount back, no questions asked. Access to the source repository ends with the refund.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also have the statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days. Because the app and the source are digital content delivered immediately, that statutory right can end once the download or repository access has started, if you agreed to that at checkout. Our 14-day refund above applies regardless.

If you bought the Mac App Store version, the purchase was made from Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple under its policy at reportaproblem.apple.com.

6. The Mac App Store version

If you bought Voice Dictate on the Mac App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies, and these terms add only what is specific to the app. Where the two conflict, Apple's agreement wins. The App Store version does not include the source, the agent kit or repository access.

7. What Szept requires

• macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
• A Soniox account and API key, from console.soniox.com.
• An internet connection for dictation. Speech recognition is a cloud service; screenshots and screen recordings work offline.
• Microphone and Accessibility permission for dictation, and Screen Recording permission for the capture tools, granted by you in System Settings. The privacy policy sets out what each is used for.

8. Acceptable use

Do not use Szept to record people (their voice, their screen or their image) who have not agreed to be recorded, where the law where you are requires their agreement. Whether and when you may record a conversation or a screen is governed by your local law, and it is your responsibility. Do not use Szept to break the law.

9. What we do not promise

Szept is provided as it is. Speech recognition and AI cleanup are imperfect and will sometimes get words wrong; proofread anything that matters. Soniox and any AI provider you connect are independent services that may change their prices, models, terms or availability, and Szept depends on them. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Szept. None of this limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Polish law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts there, or use an out-of-court consumer dispute body available where you live.

11. Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and the current version is always the one published at this address. Changes do not take away anything you have already bought.
